Bike Cleaning Tip: Protect Your Disk Brake Rotors

Bike Cleaning Tip: Protect Your Disk Brake RotorsWhen cleaning your mountain bike, protecting the disk brake rotors from degreasers, cleaning agents and chain lubricants you might use for getting your bike clean and shiny is a task that requires some extra attention.

Putting an ordinary plastic bag over the disk brake rotors is a cheap and easy way to prevent any degreaser or WD-40 spray (or anything for that matter) to end up on your rotors and cause contamination of the disk brake calipers.

After you are finished with the cleaning and lubing your chain and cogs, just remove the plastic bags and wipe the rotor with a clean cloth soaked in 99% alcohol. That will remove anything that got on the rotors and improve your braking performance.
