The GORE Bike Wear Universal Undergloves give you the option to extend the lower limit of your regular winter gloves by a 5-10 degrees, but at a price. Made from “thermo-stretch functional fabric” as stated in the product description, these under gloves offer an extra layer of insulation that helps in keeping the cold away from your hands and the warmth trapped inside a bit more effectively.
The fit is tight, but not as tight as I would like it to be. I have the GORE Bike Wear ALP-X 2.0 WINDSTOPPER Gloves in size M and I got the undergloves in size M too. Although my gloves were pretty tight, I managed to put them on with the undergloves on may hand. The end result was a more tight fitting combination that felt somehow restraining when I was trying to bend my palm (like wearing shoes with very thick socks).
My only complaint was that the seams on the finger tips were getting pushed under my fingernails. I think that a seamless version of these undergloves will be much more comfortable to wear, but unfortunately they don’t make it.
The only thing I am concerned with is, that if I use them a few more times I will stretch my gloves quite a bit from the added bulk and they will become loose around the fingers. I think I will be better off buying another heavy weight winter gloves when temperatures drop below 0°C.
Pros: Warm, lightweight
Cons: Pricy (around 20 EUR), seams not executed that well
